Light detection and ranging (LIDAR) systems use the time it takes for light to travel between objects to try to measure the distance to this target. The TIDA-00663 reference design shows how to design a time-to-digital converter (TDC) -based time measurement back-end and related front-end for LIDAR. The LIDAR pulsed time-of-flight reference design can be used in all applications where it is not possible to measure the distance to a target by establishing actual contact with the target. Typical examples include measuring the presence of objects on a conveyor belt in a logistics center, and maintaining a safe distance around a moving robot among many. As well as the flight time of drones, LiDAR radar distance measurement for autopilot.
