SUNNYVALE, CA-June 18, 2009-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX17083, a low-voltage, step-down regulator with an internal boost switch. Designed for space-constrained applications, this device integrates dual n-channel MOSFET power switches in a small, 16mm² TQFN package. Easily supporting a continuous load current up to 5A, the internal 25mW low-side power MOSFETs ensure high efficiency while reducing component count. For further space and cost savings, the MAX17083 eliminates the need for external Schottky diodes, as well as an external boost diode. This small step-down regulator is ideal for ultra-mobile PCs (UMPCs), netbooks, portable gaming devices, and other low-power, compact applications.

The MAX17083 uses a current-mode, fixed-frequency control scheme to provide an easy-to-implement architecture that does not sacrifice transient response. This architecture also provides peak-current-limit protection and operates in pulse-skipping mode to maintain high efficiency under light-load conditions.

This step-down regulator produces an adjustable 0.75V to 2.7V output voltage from the system's 3.3V or 5V input supply. It is available in a space-saving, 4mm x 4mm, 24-pin TQFN package, and is fully specified over the -40°C to +85°C extended temperature range. Prices start at $2.75 (1000-up, FOB USA). An evaluation kit with recommended external components is available to reduce design time.

SUNNYVALE, CA-December 4, 2008-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX14515, a DC-to-AC liquid lens driver for autofocus (AF) camera modules. The MAX14515 features a high-voltage differential output controlled through an I²C interface. It employs a charge-pump topology to reduce the number of external components typically used for autofocus drivers in camera modules. The I²C interface and the charge-pump topology are combined in a tiny 2mm x 1mm WLP, making the MAX14515 the industry's smallest liquid lens driver. The device is ideal for tiny cell-phone camera modules that use the newest autofocus technologies.

The traditional liquid lens drivers available on the market require components typically found in boost topologies, which minimally include a large inductor, diode, and high-voltage capacitor. Meanwhile, other charge-pump-based drivers are large and require many capacitors. When the numerous other supporting discrete components are added to the design, the size of these discrete solutions requires a large footprint, one that can no longer be accommodated inside the shrinking autofocus camera modules.

The MAX14515 needs at most two small external capacitors: one low-voltage capacitor and a tiny bypass capacitor. The device integrates an 8-bit monotonic DAC with a single-differential high-voltage output controlled by a 2-wire I²C interface to set the amplitude. The high-voltage output delivers up to 42VRMS into a 200pF liquid lens load at 1.1kHz. With its 2mm² footprint, which is at least 60% smaller than the market's available drivers, the MAX14515 liquid lens driver easily fits inside the camera module. The unique combination of smallest footprint, I²C interface, and low shutdown current make the MAX14515 ideal for enabling today's newest high-performance, autofocus camera modules.

The MAX14515 is fully specified over the -40°C to +85°C extended temperature range. The device is priced at $1.50 (1000-up, FOB USA).

SUNNYVALE, CA-January 28, 2009-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX9892, a shunt-mode, audio click-and-pop eliminator designed for portable multimedia devices. This simple IC provides 35dB of click-and-pop suppression to eliminate the irritating audible artifacts generated during startup and shutdown cycles. Available in tiny UCSP(TM) and µDFN packages, the MAX9892 only requires one 0.1µF capacitor to complete the solution. This low-cost, ultra-compact solution is ideal for cell phones, portable media players and gaming consoles, notebooks, mobile internet devices (MIDs), and other audio applications.

The MAX9892 eliminates click-and-pop noise on power and shutdown cycles by connecting to the output of the existing amplifier and providing a low impedance path to ground during power on and off. This device has two low-impedance analog switches that are open and do not affect to outcome signal during normal operation. These switches are turned on during startup and shutdown to shunt the clicks and pops to ground.

The MAX9892 operates from a 1.7V to 3.6V single supply and consumes an ultra-low, 1µA supply current. Offered in space-saving, 6-bump UCSP (1mm x 1.52mm x 0.6mm) and 6-pin µDFN (2mm x 2mm x 0.75mm) packages, the device is fully specified for operation over the -40°C to +85°C extended temperature range. Prices start at $0.38 (1000-up, FOB USA). An evaluation kit is available to speed designs.

SUNNYVALE, CA-November 13, 2008-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX9937, a tiny, high-side current-sense amplifier that uses external resistors to set the voltage gain for maximum design flexibility. The MAX9937 protects against accidental application of battery voltage in the reverse (wrong) direction and against inductive kickback transients and spikes (load dump) of -20V to +40V. These safeguards are a major concern in automotive electronic control units (ECUs), which are used to monitor currents in the modules that control electronic power steering, 4-wheel drive, and antilock braking systems; it even watches the fuse box so as to monitor problems.

The MAX9937 input common-mode range is 4V to 28V and is independent of the VCC supply voltage, which can operate at 2.7V to 5.5V. When VCC is 5V, the supply current is a low 20µA. When VCC is 0V, the input bias current at the sense resistor is only 1µA to minimize battery drain when the ECU is off.Voltage gain is set by the ratio of two external resistors to their accuracy. Input offset voltage (VOS) is a low ±1.2mV (max).

SUNNYVALE, CA-January 5, 2009-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX17019, a high-input-voltage, quad-output controller for automotive applications. This device saves space and cost by integrating four independent voltage outputs in a small, 36mm² TQFN package. The device includes a main-stage step-down controller, a 3AP-P step-down regulator, a 5AP-P step-down regulator, and a 2A source/sink linear regulator. Capable of operating up to 38V, the MAX17019 is ideal for automotive battery-powered devices.

The step-down converters use a peak-current-mode, fixed-frequency control scheme to provide an easy-to-implement architecture that does not sacrifice transient response. This architecture also supports peak-current-limit protection and pulse-skipping operation to maintain high efficiency under light-load conditions.

The MAX17019 is available in a space-saving, 6mm x 6mm, 48-pin TQFN package, and is fully specified over the -40°C to +125°C automotive temperature range. Prices start at $5.50 (1000-up, FOB USA).

Maxim Integrated Products is a publicly traded company that designs, manufactures, and sells high-performance semiconductor products. The Company reported revenue in excess of $2 billion for fiscal 2008. Maxim was founded over 25 years ago with the mission to deliver innovative analog and mixed-signal engineering solutions that add value to its customers' products.

SUNNYVALE, CA-January 8, 2009-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX15034, a high-performance, dual-output, synchronous step-down controller capable of driving external MOSFETs to deliver two 25A outputs or a single 50A output. This flexibility allows the device to be used for multiple design platforms, thereby reducing inventory and cost. Additionally, the MAX15034 can operate from a 4.5V to 5.5V or 5.5V to 28V input range, allowing it to be used in both 5V- and 12V-bus applications. Optimized for designs requiring a high output current, this device is ideal for computing, telecom, networking, storage, and server equipment.

The MAX15034 offers powerful programming features to maximize flexibility. Programmable features include output voltage (0.6V to 5.5V), switching frequency (100kHz to 1MHz), current-limit threshold, and the external compensation network. These adjustable features allow each design to be optimized in terms of size, performance, and cost.

To maximize space and cost savings, the device employs an average current-mode scheme that provides current-limit and current-sharing accuracy of better than 10% between phases. The accurate current limit eliminates the need for oversized external MOSFETs and inductors.

Additional MAX15034 features include: the ability to start up monotonically when the output has a prebiased voltage; two enable inputs with accurate turn-on thresholds to allow output-voltage sequencing; external frequency synchronization; and thermal-shutdown and hiccup-mode protections.

The MAX15034 is available in either a 28-pin TSSOP or a 28-pin TSSOP with exposed pad. Both versions are fully specified over the -40°C to +125°C automotive temperature range. Prices start at $2.56 (1000-up, FOB USA).

SUNNYVALE, CA-December 3, 2008-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX17101, a dual, Quick-PWM(TM) step-down controller with synchronous rectification for generating 5V/3.3V supplies in battery-powered systems. This highly integrated device consists of four output-voltage regulators, allowing it to save space while generating multiple supplies for notebook computers. An internal, 100mA linear regulator can be used to generate either the 5V bias needed for power-up or other lower-power, "always-on" suspend supplies. The controller also includes a low-current (5mA), "always-enabled" linear regulator to power the real-time clock (RTC) when all other notebook regulators are disabled. The MAX17101 is ideal for notebook computers, tablet PCs, and other portable devices.

The device employs low-side MOSFET sensing to provide low-cost, highly efficient current sensing for valley current-limit protection. Combined with the output overvoltage- and undervoltage-protection features, this current limit ensures robust output supplies. These 5V/3.3V SMPS outputs can save power by operating in pulse-skipping mode, or in ultrasonic mode to avoid audible noise.

Maxim's proprietary, Quick-PWM architecture enables the MAX17101 to handle fast load steps while maintaining a relatively constant operating frequency and inductor operating point over a wide range of input voltages. This approach circumvents the poor load-transient timing problems of fixed-frequency, current-mode PWM controllers, while also avoiding the problems caused by widely varying switching frequencies in conventional constant-on-time and constant-off-time PWM schemes.

The MAX17101 is available in a tiny, 5mm x 5mm, 32-pin TQFN package, and is fully specified over the -40°C to +85°C extended industrial temperature range. Prices start at $4.00 (1000-up, FOB USA).
